Dark City is a terrific little sci-fi film noir starring Kiefer Sutherland, Jennifer Connelly, William Hurt, and Rufus Sewell—this is definitely a title a lot of people have been looking forward to in 4K for a while now.

Also today, our friends at Imprint Films have announced their latest Imprint Asia Blu-ray titles (limited to 1500 copies each), which will include the Shaw-Shock: Shaw Brothers Horror Collection – Volume One box set—featuring Meng Hua Ho’s The Oily Maniac (1976), Kuen Yeung’s Seeding of a Ghost (1983), and Chun Keung Chiu and Tai-Heng Li’s Sex Beyond the Grave (1984)—Hua Shan’s Portrait in Crystal (1983), and Felix Chong and Alan Mak’s The Lost Bladesman (2011). Severin Films is releasing the Peter Cushing Dalek movies in 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray in a new collection called Total Extermination, including Gordon Flemyng’s Dr. Who and the Daleks (1966) and Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 AD (1966). The street date is 6/24. Both 4Ks will include Dolby Vision HDR. Here’s the link to their web store. (And thanks to Bits reader Michael R. for the heads up!)

Meanwhile, Synapse Films has just revealed via their latest podcast that they’re working on 4K Ultra HD upgrades of Scott Spiegel’s Intruder (1989), Paul Lynch’s Prom Night (1980), Frank Henenlotter’s Frankenhooker (1990), and J. Michael Muro’s Street Trash (1987). Plus they announced that they’re doing 4K editions of some of the Andy Sedaris movies, starting with Malibu Express (1985). And more titles are likely to follow. Also, the BFI has announced Richard Loncraine’s cult pop music film Slade in Flame (1975) for Blu-ray release on 5/19.

In theatrical release news, Bleecker Street and Fathom Entertainment have partnered to screen a new 4K restoration of Rob Reiner’s original This Is Spinal Tap (1984) in theaters in the US on July 5, 6, and 7. This is in advance of Bleecker Street’s release of the upcoming sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues (2025), on 9/12. We do expect new physical media releases to follow, including (possibly) 4K UHD. Stay tuned for details on that in the months ahead.

And if you missed Bernard MacMahon’s excellent Becoming Led Zeppelin (2025) documentary, note that it’s returning to IMAX theaters for one night only on 4/2. Then on 4/4, it will be available for Digital purchase from Sony via all the usual outlets. We’re still awaiting a physical media announcement, but we do expect there will be one sometime in April or May.
