We’re rounding out the week with another new disc review and some great breaking Blu-ray and 4K release news as well.

First up the disc review: I’ve just posted my thoughts on Kino Lorber Studio Classics’ new Blu-ray release of the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1979) feature film, which streets on November 24th. It’s a nice HD presentation and the first time the film has appeared on the format in its 1.85:1 theatrical aspect ratio. Do give it a look.

Also, we may check back in later today with a review of Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 in 4K Ultra HD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. It’s definitely in progress, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Now then, in announcement news today, our friends at the Warner Archive Collection have just revealed their December slate of Blu-ray titles, and it’s fantastic. [Read on here...]

Afternoon, folks. We’ve got a few things for you today to close out the week.

First up, we have a trio of new Blu-ray reviews...

Tim has posted his thoughts on Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ Haunt (2019) from Ronin Flix.

And Dennis has taken a look at Jan de Bont’s The Haunting (1999) from the Paramount Presents line, as well as Herbert Ross’ The Secret of My Success (1987) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

I’m also about to get my hands on a pretty significant Q4 4K Ultra HD release later today, so (with luck) I’ll be working on a review of the title over the weekend.

No, it’s not Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, but let’s just say winter is near. So watch for an update over the next few days. [Read on here...]

All right, we’re kicking off the new week with some release news today before we get busy with Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD review work...

First up, Lionsgate has set Spinning Man for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/12, starring Guy Pierce, Pierce Brosnan, and Minnie Driver. They also have the comedy Valentina’s Wedding (La Boda De Valentina) coming on DVD only on 5/8.

Universal has set The Strangers: Prey at Night – Unrated for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/12, with the Digital release expected on 5/22. Universal is also releasing The Purge, The Purge: Anarchy, and The Purge: Election Year as 4K Ultra HD single editions on 6/12. These were previously only available in The Purge: 3-Movie Collection on the format. We’ve updated the 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly.

We have just a couple things for you today, but first a quick recommendation…

If you’re a fan of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, you really owe it to yourself to pick up a copy of Michael Benson’s new book on the making of the film, Space Odyssey. I’m only about a quarter of the way through it, but it’s incredibly comprehensive and filled with interesting and surprising revelations and insights on the production. I can’t recommend it more highly. You can find it here on Amazon.

Also today, we’ve updated the Release Dates & Artwork section with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, anytime you order through our links you’re helping us to continue our work here at The Bits and we appreciate it! [Read on here...]

All right, we’ve got a pair of new Blu-rays for you today and some mighty release news…

First, Tim has turned in a look at Robert Altman’s Images (1972) on Blu-ray from Arrow Academy for you all to check out.

And I’ve checked in with my thoughts on Fabulous Film’s new Region B Blu-ray box set of Northern Exposure: The Complete Series, which features all 110 episodes in HD with the original uncut music (at long last). Unfortunately, there seems to be no U.S. (Region A) release planned, so you’ll need an all-region capable Blu-ray player to take advantage of it.

I’ll also be checking back in later today with at least one more review of a 4K Ultra HD title, with more on the way soon. So be sure to watch for those. [Read on here...]

We just wanted to chime in here early this morning to report some great news for fans of Guardians of the Galaxy, Disney, and the 4K Ultra HD format. Director James Gunn just posted the following statement tonight on his Facebook page (which continues in full below the break):

“Yes, it’s true, & I am UNBELIEVABLY EXCITED to announce that, after a couple of years of me begging and pleading, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be coming to home video in 4K UltraHD. It will be the FIRST Disney release to be released this way.” [Read on here...]
